Teaching
I have been involved in academic teaching since the year 2000 when I was a graduate student at the University of Bielefeld. As a tutor, I have both independently taught classes and supported the teaching activities of my supervising professors.Since then, I had many opportunities to hone my instructional skills in face-to-face and blended learning settings. My teaching philosophy is strongly influenced by my professional background in e-learning research. I understand digital tools as mediating artifacts, which allow students to achieve individual learning goals. Learning is the acquisition of new mental schemata, models, abilities and skills, which can be used to solve problems more successfully, to support decision making and to evaluate new experiences. This understanding of learning accentuates doing as a basis for creating knowledge. Therefore, I strongly believe in assignments where students can create, cooperate and reflect upon the product and process. Social software (e.g., blogs, wikis, networking, media sharing) can especially support these activities.
